In an era where sustainability is paramount, and ethical considerations are at the forefront of consumer consciousness, the jewelry industry is undergoing a transformation. Enter recycled metals - a shining beacon of responsible sourcing and environmental stewardship. At Soha Diamond Co., we are proud to embrace the sustainability of recycled metals in our fine jewelry. Join us as we explore the allure of recycled metals and the impact they have on both our planet and the world of luxury adornments.

Recycled metals offer a sustainable alternative to traditional mining practices, significantly reducing the environmental footprint associated with the extraction and processing of raw materials. By repurposing precious metals such as gold, silver, and platinum from existing sources, we are able to minimize the need for new mining activities, thereby preserving natural habitats, reducing energy consumption, and curbing carbon emissions.

Contrary to popular misconception, recycled metals are every bit as luxurious and precious as their mined counterparts. For example, recycled gold is made through a process known as gold recycling, which involves collecting, refining, and reusing gold from various sources. The first step is collecting scrap gold from different sources. Scrap gold can come from a wide range of sources, including old jewelry, electronic components, dental fillings, and industrial waste. Scrap gold may be collected from individuals, businesses, jewelry manufacturers, refineries, and recycling centers.  Once collected, the gold is sorted into different categories based on its purity and form. Sorting helps ensure that each type of gold is processed appropriately and efficiently.

After sorting, the gold undergoes processing to prepare it for recycling. This involves cleaning, shredding, and melting the gold to remove impurities and contaminants. In the case of electronic scrap, gold may be extracted using chemical processes such as cyanidation or acid leaching. Once processed, the gold is melted down in a furnace to create molten gold. During this melting process, any remaining impurities or contaminants are removed through various purification methods, such as fluxing and skimming. The molten gold is then poured into molds or cast into ingots to form solid gold bars or blocks. The refined gold may undergo further refining processes to achieve the desired purity and quality. This may include electrolysis, aqua refining, or other chemical treatments to remove any remaining impurities and increase the gold’s purity to a desired level (typically 99.9% pure or higher). Finally, refined gold can be fabricated into new gold products, such as jewelry.

Overall, the process of recycling metals helps conserve natural resources, reduce energy consumption, and minimize environmental impact compared to traditional mining and metal extraction methods. By recycling metals, we can create a more sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to metal production and consumption. Recycled metals offer endless possibilities for creativity and expression in jewelry design.  At Soha Diamond Co., we only use 100% certified recycled precious metals in our engagement rings, wedding bands, and all of our fine jewelry. We invite you to join us on our journey toward a more sustainable and ethical future.
