You've already likely heard that you should spend between 2-3 months salary on an engagement ring. But is this necessary for everybody? Absolutely not! We're here to tell you that you there is no right answer, number, or percentage on what to spend. It all depends on what YOU'RE comfortable with spending. Does 2-3 months salary sound good to you? Great! Does spending a couple hundred make you comfortable? Perfect! It's a good idea to have a conversation with your partner about finances and what you both are expecting to spend and receive.

According to WeddingWire's 2017 Newlywed Report, the average engagement ring spend was $5,000, with 36% of respondents spending 2 months salary. An increasing percentage of couples are choosing to pick out the ring together, at 42%. We like to see this number, as it shows that it's becoming more normalized to be on the same page about the ring, as in the past, picking out a ring together was more of a taboo. Of course, there are some couples out there who are all about the surprise factor! Lastly, while December is the most popular month to pop the question (and Christmas Day the most popular day), Valentine's Day is the 2nd most popular engagement day.
