In this Q+A, Frida and Steven shared their insights into their experience designing the perfect engagement ring with Soha Diamond Co. With their combined eye for detail and unwavering dedication to creating their dream engagement ring, Frida and Steven shared with us why designing their engagement ring together was a special moment they will cherish for years to come.
Q: Where did you two meet, and how long have you been together?
A:We met in Italy in January 2019 while we were both studying abroad. We’ve been together for five years and married for almost two years.
Q: Tell us your proposal story!
A:It was a few days shy of the three-year anniversary of the day we met. I was spending my winter break from college with Steven in Madison. It was almost the last day of winter break, and Steven had been asking to go on walk for the past week. I kept putting it off because it was really snowy, and I didn’t think that was great weather for a walk. After a very cozy winter day of playing video games together at home, Steven asked me to go on a walk with him to see the sunset. Since it was almost the end of break, I finally said yes! We went to this little park near Steven's house and walked on this frozen lake together. As we were talking about our future, Steven got down on one knee and proposed with a heart-shaped strawberry Ring Pop! He chose to propose with the Ring Pop so that we would get to design the ring together, and he made an appointment with Soha Diamond Co. for the very next day.
Q: What drew you both, as a couple, to Soha Diamond Co.?
A: Something we had talked about before was how having an ethical diamond was really important to us. After looking at our options for ethical and conflict-free diamonds, we decided that lab grown diamonds offered us the supply chain transparency that we wanted to feel good about the ring.
Q: What factors were most important to you when designing your engagement ring?
A: I knew going into the process that I wanted to wear both my wedding band and engagement ring together regularly. I didn’t wear a lot of jewelry before we got engaged, and so I wanted to make sure that I had a ring I was comfortable with wearing everyday.
Q: What does your engagement ring mean to you?
A:Our engagement ring is a beautiful piece of jewelry that symbolizes our commitment to each other. I even felt good about Steven including me in the process of designing the ring, rather than on his own, because it showed how he wanted to know what I wanted, and wanted to make sure that I absolutely loved the ring that I would be wearing for the rest of my life.
Q: What is one piece of advice you would give to a couple that may be interested in designing their own engagement ring?
A:Do it! Yes, designing your ring together after a proposal might mean you don’t have an engagement ring to show off right away, but having a ring that you love for the rest of your life is worth so much more than that!
